Inpatient chemical dependency rehabilitation
If you or someone you know has a problem with alcohol or drugs, the Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Chemical Dependency at Staten Island University Hospital is ready to help.
Widely respected as one of the largest and most comprehensive treatment centers in New York, we offer a wide range of treatment options for the chemically dependent patient and their family members. Patients are assessed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of medical and counseling staff members and admitted into an appropriate program using the patient placement criteria of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
All our programs provide individualized treatment. Interventions are designed to match the patient's readiness to change in order to increase the potential for a positive response to treatment. Motivational interviewing is used to assist the patient with identifying their strengths and to build hope, even after years of dependency and multiple treatment episodes.
Patient recovery and education
It is important that as a patient's recovery progresses, they resume a productive lifestyle. We provide a variety of on-site educational and vocational services and referrals to assist patients in continuing their education, beginning a job-training program, or returning to the workforce. And because child-care issues represent a significant barrier that prevents many women from entering treatment, childcare is available at the South campus for our outpatient program participants while they are attending program activities.
Our chemical dependency programs are licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Dr. Miguel Tirado, medical director of Chemical Dependency Services, is credentialed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). The majority of the counseling staff members are credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselors, and many of the nurses are credentialed in addiction nursing.
The staff at Staten Island University Hospital is always ready to help you or loved ones manage, control and stop addiction problems. With skilled doctors and staff members, we are certain we can help our patients enjoy a fresh breath of life.
HIV health services
A comprehensive range of HIV health services are available, including HIV testing with pre- and post-test counseling, OB/GYN access, acupuncture, mental health counseling for infected and affected individuals, and harm reduction/recovery readiness. Some of these services are available at off-site locations around Staten Island and in our Brooklyn programs.
